BY JOHN SHAFFER

Following a successful tripleheader at National Car Rental Center on Dec. 18, the Orange Bowl Committee has announced the University of Florida and the University of Miami will participate in the 2000 and 2001 HIP Health Plan Orange Bowl Basketball Classics.

The match-ups are yet to be determined, as both Miami and Florida, two of the nation's up-and-coming programs, will play two national powers in December 2000 and December 2001 at the National Car Rental Center in Sunrise.

"We are excited to have both Miami and Florida represent the state of Florida in our annual HIP Health Plan Orange Bowl Basketball Classic," said Keith Tribble, executive director of the Orange Bowl. "As we head into our seventh year, we are proud to have schools from the state represented in both games of the doubleheader."

The HIP Classic will return to a doubleheader format in 2000 and 2001. A Florida school has participated in every game played in the six previous years, with Miami playing in every classic. Florida, which currently is ranked in the top 10 of the Associated Press poll, will play in its third HIP Classic.
