Genealogy Society to host

BY ROBERT HAMILTON

In response to the nationwide surge of interest in genealogy during the past year, the Genealogical Society of Greater Miami has announced that it will host a one-day "How-To" seminar on Saturday, Jan. 22, featuring renowned genealogist, Christine Rose.

The number of Americans "searching for their roots" has reached unprecedented proportions. Basic on-line classes and new genealogy Web sites are emerging everyday. Time magazine featured America's latest obsession on its cover last year, and the nation watched as some of its most respected journalists discovered their roots on the NBC Nightly News.

The Genealogical Society hopes to provide researchers with the tools they will need to get beyond the basics, explains Diane Gravel, vice president.

"I attended one of Christine's sessions at a genealogy conference this past summer. It was simply outstanding. She offers practical, no-nonsense solutions for one of the most common problems facing genealogists -- staying focused. Her 36 years of experience have uncovered many sources the average genealogist would never consider," Gravel said.

"I've used those resources and techniques to break through some of the 'brick

walls' we all eventually encounter. Simply stated, her methods work. This seminar will give researchers a wealth of information they can actually use in their own research."
The seminar will take place at the new Summerfield Suites Hotel at 5710 Blue Lagoon Drive from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Rose will conduct four sessions:

* "Solving" the Problem On-site in 25 Hours or Less

* Avoid the Crooked Path! Genealogical Problem Solving

* Estates: A Goldmine!

* Using Little Known and Neglected Sources: A Potpourri

Christine Rose is a Certified Genealogist and Genealogical Lecturer, and is a Fellow of the American Society of Genealogists. She has worked in over 500 courthouses, the National Archives, and countless other state and regional repositories. She has authored many genealogical publications and lectured extensively throughout the country.

The cost for the seminar, including lunch, is $40 per person. Space is limited, and reservations will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis.
