Young professionals find friendship and fun with Jewish |

A group of young professionals who like to have a good time is what Jewish 20Somethings is all about. The group caters to Jewish individuals who enjoy gathering in a friendly environment. "Our intention is a social atmosphere, not a singles group, however the majority of the people are single," said Jeremy Sax, co-president and co-founder. Sax, along with fellow co-president and co-founder, Mackie Feierstein, and other young professionals, were asked to start this social group in March 1999. "Local Jewish leaders felt there was a lack of Jewish involvement between the ages of 21 and 29, so they approached us to organize a group which became Jewish 20Somethings." When the group began, the intention was to have happy hours and various social parties, with no membership fees and cover charges of only $5-10. The whole objective of 20Somethings is to have fun Jewish social events, while keeping the costs to a minimum. "The Annual Matza Ball, held Christmas evening, is a great event; but I think a $20 cover and $5 drinks is a bit excessive," Sax said. Past events have included a party at the Martini Bar in Coconut Grove in May attracting nearly 80 people, as well as drawing 75 people for happy hour at John Martin's Pub in Coral Gables in October and 65 people on Brickell Key for a Halloween Bash. Future events include a coed softball game in the Grove, a weekend in the Keys, and a happy hour on South Beach. Having begun as a small group in the Miami area, Jewish 20Somethings has hopes of expanding into Aventura, Hollywood and the Keys.
