Kicking off the new year, Coral Gables Junior Woman's Club members conducted their first meeting of the century on Jan. 5 at their beautiful clubhouse on E. Ponce de Leon Blvd. With the approach of the club's Cabaret season, the women are planning their annual garage sale to help underwrite production costs. This year's sale will take place in Coral Gables on Saturday, Jan. 22, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., at 1805 Ferdinand St. Enjoying Gulliver Schools' Annual Science Fair, which also served as a Gables Chamber of Commerce Chamber Trustee reception, are Yris With donations coming from a hundred members and friends, it promises to be a great way to pick up bargains and help a worthy cause. Cabaret is the club's annual fundraiser which supports their free children's dental clinic. As a final activity before the Junior Orange Bowl Parade Committee's annual critique meeting, more than 70 city employees were treated to breakfast at Biscayne Cafeteria on Miracle Mile on Friday morning, Jan. 7. The annual breakfast is the Junior Orange Bowl's way of thanking those individuals whose efforts go above and beyond to make the parade safe, fun and exciting for participants and spectators alike. Among Junior Orange Bowl members on hand to give thanks and enjoy a hearty breakfast with the workers were Paul Olingy, Junior Orange Bowl executive director; Bonnie Blaire, JOB Parade chair; Arnie Perry, past president of the JOB, and Linda Andrew, president-elect. Of the many city employees on hand were Joe Keefe, who taped the show to run on the City's Cable Television Channel; Chris Weller, of Public Works, who seems to always be there when needed, and Bernard Lumpkin and Bruce Storr, of Public Service to mention a few. actually had breakfast with traffic enforcement officer, Robert Christie, who, I am sure, has written several parking tickets for me over the years. Nevertheless, he's a really nice guy and, like the others, is very much appreciated -- especially on parade day. Coral Gables Community Foundation continues to work on new initiatives and I'll keep you appraised of those in future columns. Until next week, keep making each day count.
