Hospital to host several support groups

A variety of support groups will be holding meetings at South Miami Hospital beginning in March. All meetings are free of charge.

A diabetes support group will meet on the first Wednesday of the month from 3 to 4 p.m. at South Miami Hospital, U.S. 1 and SW 62 Avenue. The meetings offer people with diabetes a chance to discuss potential difficulties as well as triumphs of living daily with diabetes. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, Mar. 1. A support group in Spanish for stroke survivors and their families will meet the first Saturday of each month. The group will meet from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at South Miami Hospital, East Tower Building, in the fourth floor dining room. The meetings offer Spanish speaking people who have been affected by stroke an opportunity to discuss concerns, talk to experts about related health issues, and offer support to one another. A bilingual support group for parents grieving the loss of children by miscarriage, stillborn or newborn death (SHARE) will meet the first and third Wednesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at the hospital's East Tower Building in the AARP Conference Room. The March meetings will be held on Wednesday, Mar. 1, and Wednesday, Mar. 15. The meetings provide a secure and con

A support group for those grieving the loss of a loved one will meet the first and third Tuesday of the month, 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Baptist Medical Plaza in Coral Gables, 320 Giralda Ave., on the first floor of the Gables Grand Plaza. March sessions will meet on Tuesday, Mar. 7, and Tuesday, Mar. 21. The group, organized by South Miami Hospital's Counseling Services, is designed to provide open, ongoing support for participants. A Hodgkin's and Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma support group for those who have lymph-affected cancer will meet on the first and third Thursday of the month from 7:30 to 9 p.m., at South Miami Hospital's Center for Women's Medicine. The March meetings will be held on Thursday, Mar. 2, and Thursday, Mar. 16. The free meetings offer people suffering from lymph-affected cancer an opportunity to express feelings and share concerns. A support group for women will meet every Tuesday during the month of March from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the hospital's Victor E. Clarke Education Center. The meetings are offered by South Miami Hospital's Behavioral Medicine Program and the Center for Women's Medicine, to women who are leaving a relationship, going through a divorce or who are recently widowed.
