With less than a month to go in the Winter Season, Miami Jai-Alai's Michelena, considered the top jai-alai player in the world, is closing in on his 10th Triple Crown, an unparalleled accomplishment. The 38-year-old superstar, who counts a World Championship and three National Championships among his unprecedented 51 professional titles, is only a few wins away from taking the lead in the battle for the Most Wins title at Miami Jai-Alai, 3500 NW 37 Ave. Now in his 17th season, the French frontcourter currently is leading in the Singles and Frontcourt competition. If Michelena can catch 24-year-old future star Zinkunegi in the Most Wins category and maintain his Singles and Frontcourt lead, he would capture his 10th Triple Crown. "One month is a long way to go and anything can happen," said Michelena, who last won a Triple Crown in 1993. "My goal now is to remain healthy and, as always, play as hard as I can." Miami Jai-Alai is open for matinee performances at noon on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Sunday's matinee begins at 1 p.m. Evening performances are Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. For reservations or information, contact Miami Jai-Alai at 305-633-6400. |
