Magnetized

By Ron Beasley

Baptist hospital is celebrating two years of being a "Magnet Hospital" for excellence in nursing services, as recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, an arm of the American Nurses Association.

Baptist officials hung a huge banner at the entrance to the hospital to mark the occasion. The Magnet program was established in 1993, and when Baptist was tapped in 1998, it was only the 11th hospital in the nation to gain the designation. Magnet recognition comes after a volunteer peer review appraisal of a hospital's nursing services for validation of exceptional clinical outcomes and patient care. The review also evaluates the management and organizational philosophy of a hospital. (Photo by Ron Beasley)
