DiscoverAmerica, the award-winning television series that takes viewers to
the most inviting destinations throughout the United States, Canada, the
Caribbean, and Europe is proud to feature Ripley County, Indiana, in an
upcoming episode of DiscoverAmerica. The DiscoverAmerica production crew
is scheduled to arrive June 15, 2000 to scout and shoot the episode
through June 18, 2000.
Located in the heart of the Golden Triange formed by Indianapolis, Cincinnati, and Louisville, Ripley County is home to Indiana's second largest state park, the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association and the 1954 Indiana High School basketball champions which inspired the movie "Hoosiers". Its small town flavor and proximity to three major metropolitan areas, as well as three riverboat casinos make Ripley County an ideal place to live, work and play...and to be on DiscoverAmerica. Outdoor enthusiasts have no shortage of things to do in Ripley County. Indiana's second largest state park, Versailles State Park spreads across nearly 6,000 acres. It offers canoeing, row boating, and fishing. Other water activities include a swimming pool with a 100-foot water slide. The park also offers 6 miles of hiking, 27 miles for bicycling, golfing, and bridle trails for horseback riding as well as a campground. There are a number of county-wide attractions to lure sight-seers such as the Tyson United Methodist Church (constructed without the use of even one nail); antique shops; historic building; wooden covered bridges; Villa Milan Winery and Restaurant (offers wine tasting); Weberding's Carving Shop (known internationally for its works of art); festivals; events; and wonderful lodgings and restaurants. With such friendly people and so much to see and do, it's easy to see why they say, "Ripley County is the Heart of the Golden Triangle and the Soul of Indiana Basketball." The Teaching Learning Network is located in West Palm Beach, Florida and produces the DiscoverAmerica series, Kids Cafe and Trailside: Make Your Own Adventure which air on national television, independent cable and in network syndication. |
